Our Beginnings

Founded in January 2019, the Sudanese Diaspora Network, known as SDN, is a non-partisan, youth and young professionals-led organization that strives to represent the plurality of the Sudanese people.

The December 2018 Revolution inspired SDN members to actively help by any means to support the #SudanUprising from abroad. Support was made through various streams, from solidarity with our people through global diaspora protests to advocating for peaceful democratic transformation in Sudan by raising awareness, lobbying key figureheads, and initiating a series of fundraising campaigns to provide urgently needed medical and food supplies on the ground.

Since SDN's inception, we have continued exploring ways the diaspora can work with our counterparts in Sudan to help add value to Sudan's upcoming development and re-building phases.

“The important thing is that I returned with a great yearning for my people in that small village at the bend of the Nile. For seven years I had longed for them, had dreamed of them, and it was an extraordinary moment when I at last found myself standing amongst them. They rejoiced at having me back and made a great fuss, and it was not long before I felt as though a piece of ice were melting inside of me, as though I were some frozen substance on which the sun had shone - that life warmth of the tribe which I had lost for a time in a land 'whose fishes die of the cold'.”Sudanese Writer Tayeb Salih— Season of Migration to the North

WE ARE THE SUDANESE DIASPORA NETWORK

Our Mission

Our mission is to develop the capacity, ambition, and minds to become a powerhouse in inspiring Sudan’s long-awaited transformation into the great nation it was always destined to become. The theme of the mission revolves around unifying, mobilizing, and empowering the Sudan-diaspora network.

Our Vision

SDN aspires to become a platform where diaspora organizations unify and share resources toward common goals. SDN and potential partners aim to play a part in the 'rebuilding phase' of Sudan – collectively, we will endeavor to help redefine Sudan's image and standing on the International stage and, most importantly, play a role in helping empower the youth for a better Sudan.

Referring to our three pilliars, SDN aspires:

  • To become a driver for positive change by seeking to unify the diaspora and play a pivotal role in helping foster mutual State-to-State relationships.

  • Position SDN as an external lobby group between Sudan and entities.

  • For a Sudan that hones and retains talent, that allows people to flourish, captures the beauty of its innate diversity, and thrives on the success of inclusivity. The land of immense potential to become a land of boundless opportunity.

  • For Sudan to be a country that will become a regional leader in Africa & beyond and inspire other African countries.
